Best Waterproof Inspection Cameras in 2026

Best waterproof inspection cameras in 2026

A flooded well casing and a wet sewer lateral both need sealed camera components, but their deployment and depth are different. Choose by the rated part, operating condition and route: the Well Inspection Camera STRAHL HD lowers vertically with its head and cable rated IP68 to 30 bar in freshwater; Sewer Camera ANACONDA has IP68 camera heads and push rod for a sewer; Videoscope VOYAGER M40 has IP68 insertion probes for equipment access. Fiberscope sells these systems and services them in-house.

Read the seal rating part by part

IP68 describes an enclosure under its manufacturer's conditions, not an entire inspection kit dropped into water. A camera head may be rated while its screen, charging socket and control case stay dry. IEC 60529 defines ingress-protection classifications; depth and pressure claims belong to the particular part and manufacturer's test conditions.

Job System Rated part and condition Deployment limit
Freshwater well or borehole STRAHL HD Head and cable, IP68 to 30 bar Lower vertically, 1.77 in (45 mm) head
3-inch-plus sewer main, joint view ANACONDA Camera heads and push rod, IP68 Push reel; pan-and-tilt changes view, not propulsion
Wet residential lateral with 2-inch bends HATHORN Mini Camera head IP68 to 60 psi (4.1 bar) 1.23 in (31 mm) head, 200 ft (61 m) reel
Longer drain from a cleanout VIPER Mid Mid reel IP68; 1-inch straight head IP68 131 or 197 ft (40 or 60 m) reel
Wet machine port VOYAGER M40 Insertion probe IP68 0.08–0.24 in (2.0–6.0 mm) articulated options

The screen and control unit remain outside the wet area. That distinction matters more than a generic waterproof claim, particularly when a connector lies below the waterline. For the separate question of depth, reel and well diameter, see the well camera guide.

Well Inspection Camera STRAHL HD: vertical freshwater depth

The Well Inspection Camera STRAHL HD has a 1.77 in (45 mm) dual-view head and an IP68 head-and-cable rating to 30 bar in freshwater. A downward lens follows the bore path while the side-view camera rotates 360° to examine casing walls and screens. The 13-inch monitor, depth counter and USB recording support a well-condition file at the surface.

From $9,480 to $10,500 across store variants; prices checked September 26. Choose STRAHL HD for casing damage, screen deposits, water-entry areas or a lost tool in an accessible well. The cable is lowered under gravity and cannot be pushed horizontally around drain bends.

Sewer Camera ANACONDA: wet mainline joints

The Sewer Camera ANACONDA has IP68 heads and push rod, a 1.97 in (50 mm) pan-and-tilt head and up to 394 ft (120 m) of push cable on its large reel. The 1.57 in (40 mm) self-levelling head is for narrower access. Both have 512 Hz sondes and need a separate 512 Hz receiver for an above-ground mark. The control box has a 13-inch monitor and records to USB.

From $6,990 to $8,800 across configurations. This system is for joints, connections and wall damage in a larger wet sewer or storm line. A head that pans or tilts stays on a manually pushed cable; it cannot drive itself down a pipe. The 1.97 in (50 mm) head needs a larger route than a 1.5-inch fixture branch.

HATHORN Mini and VIPER Mid: two lateral approaches

The Wi-Fi Plumbing Camera HATHORN Mini uses an IP68 head to 60 psi (4.1 bar), a 1.23 in (31 mm) self-levelling camera and 200 ft (61 m) of push cable. The Wi-Fi link runs from its reel to the phone or tablet; the head sends video through the cable. Choose it for a 2–6-inch wet residential lateral where a charged mobile device is the viewing screen. From $7,300. A 1.5-inch trap needs a smaller camera; the plumber's drain-camera guide covers that route.

The Sewer Camera VIPER Mid has an IP68 Mid reel and an IP68 1-inch straight-view head. A 9-inch control screen records AVI/JPEG to SD or USB; the reel has a footage counter and 131 or 197 ft (40 or 60 m) reach. For locating, choose the 1-inch self-levelling 512 Hz head and a separate receiver. From $3,280 to $3,850. The straight 1-inch head serves 1.25–6-inch straight runs but is not a 1.25-inch P-trap solution.

Videoscope VOYAGER M40: wet equipment ports

The Videoscope VOYAGER M40 has IP68 insertion probes with 360° joystick tip control in 0.08–0.24 in (2.0–6.0 mm) articulated versions. It has a 5-inch touchscreen and captures images at the host. Use it for a suitable wet machinery cavity or a component access port, measuring the port OD and route before insertion. The display host stays above the wet environment.

From $4,160 to $8,240 across probe configurations. The short insertion probe and handheld host make it a different class from a 200 ft (61 m) drain reel or a cable-lowered well camera. For dry industrial ports where measurement and articulation take priority over sealing, see the industrial borescope guide. Watch the VOYAGER M40 in use.

What you'll also need

A wet sewer locate still requires a sonde-equipped head and a receiver, even if the head is IP68. Keep the receiver and control box within their own environmental limits. A centering skid can hold a head off the pipe floor in larger pipe, but it does not propel the camera. For inspection documentation, check a sample recorded file at the access point before committing to a long push or drop. The 512 Hz locating guide covers that separate equipment choice.

FAQ

Does IP68 make a complete camera system waterproof?

No. The rating applies to the named enclosure. STRAHL HD rates its camera and cable to 30 bar in freshwater; the monitor remains at the surface.

Can a well camera turn through a P-trap?

No. STRAHL HD lowers vertically; a small push camera matched to the pipe and bends handles a drain route.

Which parts of VIPER Mid have IP68?

The Mid reel and 1-inch straight-view head carry IP68 ratings. Keep the 9-inch control display in its working environment.

Can I locate a submerged sewer camera head?

Yes, if the head carries a 512 Hz sonde and you use a separate matching receiver above ground. Nearby metal can distort the locate.
