A slow kitchen drain and a long lateral call can both start with one plumber carrying a camera down basement stairs. The same kit will not suit both: a large head stops at a trap, while a short reel runs out before the defect. The 16 lb (7.2 kg) Wi-Fi Drain Camera HATHORN Micron is the light phone-viewing choice for 100 ft (30 m) work. The 21.6 lb (9.8 kg) MiniFlex 2 19mm Small Drain Camera Extended Set brings its own 8 in (203 mm) screen and passes a 1.25-inch PVC P-trap. Drain Camera VIPER starts with a smaller 0.27 in (7 mm) head option and a dedicated 9 in (229 mm) screen. Fiberscope sells the products discussed and services them in-house.
Choose by the load you carry and the route you reach
For a one-person service call, compare the reel plus the screen, battery and recording media, then check the narrowest fitting and working length. The camera head's outside diameter (OD) must clear the access point; the cable and neck must make the turns after it. Measure along the actual drain path from the cleanout, rather than across the yard.
A Wi-Fi reel can spare you a control case, but it still needs a charged phone or tablet and its own power. Hathorn's Wi-Fi unit sends video from the reel to the phone; the buried head sends its image back through the push cable. A self-contained case brings the display and controls together, at the cost of carrying the case as well as the reel. If the customer needs a file, load the matching SD card, USB stick or mobile app before leaving the truck.

The table is a loading decision, not a guarantee of passage through scale, offset joints or a collapsed section. Cable length and head fit must both work. A surface mark also requires a 512 Hz head and compatible receiver.

Wi-Fi Drain Camera HATHORN Micron: the light 100 ft reel
The Wi-Fi Drain Camera HATHORN Micron weighs 16 lb (7.2 kg) and carries 100 ft (30 m) of 0.25 in (6.4 mm) push rod. The 1 in (25.4 mm) head serves 1.5–4-inch drains, with a minimum 1.5-inch 90° elbow in Hathorn's Micron specifications. Its own Wi-Fi signal sends the picture to the Apple or Android app for photos and video. An 18 V Milwaukee-compatible battery and mobile device travel separately.
The head includes a 512 Hz sonde, a transmitter you can find from above ground with a separate compatible receiver. The camera head is IP68 to 60 psi (4.1 bar); the phone does not share that rating. Use this reel when one person carries gear to a cleanout and 100 ft (30 m) covers the run. A 150 ft (46 m) lateral calls for a longer cable.
MiniFlex 2 19mm: the P-trap and one-case choice
The MiniFlex 2 19mm Small Drain Camera Extended Set has a 0.76 in (19.5 mm) head and a Flexi-Tube neck that passes a 1.25-inch PVC P-trap and multiple 90° bends in 1.5-inch pipe. Its 21.6 lb (9.8 kg) case contains an 8 in (203 mm) touchscreen, SD recording and a battery rated for up to 7 h. Choose the 65 ft (20 m) or 131 ft (40 m) push cable to suit the route.
A footage counter, text overlay and playback let one operator show the obstruction at the cleanout. The 512 Hz sonde in the head needs a separate receiver for an above-ground mark. The head and cable are IP68 to 3 bar (43.5 psi). Hayden E. reported: “I've already used it successfully to navigate 1.5" pool elbows to diagnose a collapsed skimmer line.” That is a field account; heavy scale or a different trap geometry can still stop the head. Drain Camera VIPER: the configurable screen-and-reel kit
The Drain Camera VIPER has a 9 in (229 mm) LCD, up to 3.5 h of battery use and several head-and-reel choices. The fixed 0.27 in (7 mm) Micro Cam head covers 0.5–1-inch straight runs with a 98 or 164 ft (30 or 50 m) reel. On the 131 ft (40 m) Mini reel, the 0.67 in (17 mm) head fits 0.75–4-inch straight runs; a 1 in (25.4 mm) straight-view head serves 1.25–6-inch straight runs. Select the whole configuration, not just the smallest head.
The control base saves AVI video and JPEG stills to SD or USB. The 1 in (25.4 mm) self-levelling option alone carries a 512 Hz sonde; the 0.27 in (7 mm) and 0.67 in (17 mm) heads do not. The fixed Micro Cam head has no spring neck, so its small OD does not make it a P-trap tool. Use VIPER when a dedicated monitor and swappable job-specific heads matter more than phone viewing. MiniFlex 2 36mm: a one-case system for larger branches
The MiniFlex 2 36mm Drain Camera Extended Set puts a 1.4 in (36 mm) head and 8 in (203 mm) touchscreen into a self-contained case. Its battery runs up to 7 h, and it records photo, video and audio to SD. It serves 2–6-inch pipe and has a head-angle sensor for slope readings.
Its flexible neck handles bends and PVC traps from 2-inch pipe. A built-in 512 Hz sonde works with a separate receiver. Take it when the job calls for a self-contained screen and a larger self-levelling head in a 2-inch-plus branch. For a 1.25-inch PVC P-trap, use the smaller MiniFlex 2 19mm instead.
Wi-Fi Plumbing Camera HATHORN Mini: longer phone-viewing work
The Wi-Fi Plumbing Camera HATHORN Mini carries 200 ft (60 m) of 0.375 in (9.5 mm) push rod and weighs 33 lb (15 kg). Its 1.23 in (31.2 mm) self-levelling head serves 2–6-inch pipes, with a minimum 2-inch 90° elbow in Hathorn's Mini specifications. An 18 V Milwaukee-compatible battery powers the reel; a phone or tablet app displays and records photos, video and audio.
The head includes a 512 Hz sonde and is rated IP68 to 60 psi (4.1 bar). At a 160 ft (49 m) cleanout-to-defect distance, the 200 ft (60 m) reel gives room beyond the target, provided the pipe route fits. It is more to lift than Micron's 16 lb (7.2 kg) reel, and the 1.23 in (31.2 mm) head makes it a poor choice for a tight 1.5-inch trap. From $7,300.
Pan-and-Tilt Drain Camera iSnake: controlled joint viewing
The Pan-and-Tilt Drain Camera iSnake weighs 26 lb (11.7 kg), carries 98 ft (30 m) of push cable and uses a 1.3 in (33 mm) head. Pan and tilt change the view around a pipe joint; manual focus brings a particular wall area into view. The battery-operated control box has its own monitor and records photos, video, text and audio to a USB stick.
Take iSnake to a 4-inch side lateral when the task is viewing around a joint rather than getting the lightest possible reel. It serves pipe from 2 inches in diameter, and the 98 ft (30 m) cable will not reach a defect 150 ft (46 m) from the cleanout. Pan and tilt move the view, not the camera along the pipe. From $5,690.
Other options when carry weight is secondary
The RIDGID SeeSnake microREEL APX is a 12.7 lb (5.8 kg) reel with 100 ft (30 m) of cable and a 0.98 in (25 mm) camera head. Choose it over a new Fiberscope display kit if your crew already uses a compatible RIDGID SeeSnake monitor; its manufacturer lists a 1.5–4-inch pipe range. A 512 Hz sonde in the head sends a locating signal; a separate receiver set to 512 Hz finds that signal from the surface. The SnapTrack Sewer Camera Sonde Locator receives 512/640 Hz with optional 815 Hz and 33 kHz modes. It is a receiver, not a camera. Rebar and nearby metal distort the signal, so a surface reading under interference is not an exact excavation depth.
Pack the storage medium matched to the camera and confirm that the customer can open the file: SD for MiniFlex, SD or USB for VIPER, USB for iSnake, and a charged phone for the Hathorn app. NASSCO's Building Sewer and Drain Inspection guidance covers coded condition reports starting near the building; simply saving a video is a different task.
Avoid a return trip for the wrong kit
A 200 ft (60 m) reel solves reach, while a 0.76 in (19.5 mm) head and flexible neck solve a 1.25-inch PVC P-trap. Neither advantage replaces the other. Write the narrowest pipe ID, bend count and cable path on the job sheet; then load the reel, battery or charger, screen or charged device, and the correct recording media. If locating is required, bring the receiver as a separate piece.
FAQ
Can the Hathorn app show a live feed without cellular service?
Yes. The HATHORN Micron and Mini reels generate their own Wi-Fi signal for a nearby Apple or Android device; mobile data is not part of the local video link.
Can a plumber rent a camera for a single job?
Yes. Fiberscope has a rental program for short-term camera work. Give the specialist the job's access, bends and reach so the rental fits the route.
Which screen is easier to shade outdoors?
MiniFlex 2 19mm includes a sun shield around its 8 in (203 mm) touchscreen. A phone-viewing Hathorn reel uses the screen and shading of your own device.
Will a 512 Hz receiver give an exact depth beside rebar?
No. Metal and rebar distort the locating field. Use the receiver to trace a compatible 512 Hz sonde, but treat a depth reading near metal as uncertain.
Does a saved video count as a coded drain report?
No. Video is evidence; a coded assessment requires separate condition coding and reporting. NASSCO's Building Sewer and Drain Inspection program describes that process for building drains and laterals.
